We invest in research of the whole brain and all nervous system disorders knowing they are interconnected. This holistic, innovative approach allows us to build bridges between diseases and break new ground in research and application. We understand that when we cure one of them, we will cure many.

Story

Anxiety phenotypes and functional impact in youth with chronic tic disorders

Anxiety disorders are present in the majority of youth with tic disorders but the types of anxiety symptoms and the impact of these symptoms in youth with tic disorders are not well understood. Tics often improve by young adulthood, but anxiety tends to persist and can cause difficulties in adulthood. Therefore, Dr. Vermilions aim is to better understand anxiety symptoms in youth with tic disorders and how these symptoms impact their function. The goal of this research is to compare anxiety symptoms in youth with and without tic disorders and determine which symptoms predict disability in both groups. $150,000 of this project has been raised - help raise the remaining $20,000.
