Story

The Mighty Lion Chapter of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship Incorporated was established at Lincoln University on May 9th, 1969 by ten undergraduate students. The National Social Fellowship's original organizational architects included 14 undergraduate students at Morgan State College in 1962. In 1969 our ten young Lincoln University men adopted the central purpose of our Social Fellowship to promote unity and fellowship among college men.

The ten chapter charter members, shaped by their unique Lincoln University experience, were determined to unify and establish an independent body of student leadership.

At the time, a calculated effort to unify independent organizations on campus that provided a counter-balance to the Pan-Hellenic Council was viewed by some to be a revolutionary undertaking. The establishment of such a non-traditional fraternal organization, as some might expect, gave rise to some opposition from both students and administrators. However, we persevered.

In the fifty years since the birth of our independent men's social fellowship on campus, the organization has also birthed an independent Lincoln University alumni association. To honor, and in remembrance of our charter members and past leaders, we resolve to establish "The Mighty Lion Endowed Scholarship Fund" at Lincoln University.

With the establishment of this endowment fund, we seek to provide scholarship awards, in perpetuity, to African American males who are upperclassmen Lincoln University students and have a 2.5 GPA. All applicants must demonstrate financial need.
