Story

Amidst the Lebanese Crisis, Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) hopes to present a helping hand and save the lives of children suffering from cancer whose treatment is threatened by the ongoing crisis. Your donation and contribution to make our dream come true to help those pure souls get their treatment on time is highly appreciated .

Your support will help these children not only receive innovative treatments from the outstanding pediatric oncologists at CHAM, but also help offset their housing and transportation to campus.

We greatly appreciate your generosity as you can truly make a difference in the lives of these children. If you would like to make a gift via a bank transfer or check please contact Julia Isenberg in the Development Department at 718.430.3167 or email jisenberg@montefiore.org.

August 4, 2020; 6:07pm - A day we will never forget.

A massive explosion devastated the city of Beirut, leading to 190 deaths, 6,500 injuries, and leaving more than 300,000 homeless. Amidst a national crisis with rising numbers of COVID cases, high inflation, and political unrest, the repercussions of this blast extended beyond death and injury, including loss of medical supplies, especially Personal Protective Equipment and cancer chemotherapy agents. Thus, the situation in Lebanon has become one of the most emergent humanitarian crises of 2020.

Some of the most affected victims of this catastrophe are children, particularly those with cancer. Many pediatric cancer patients have struggled to obtain access to their life-saving treatments, such as chemotherapy, radiation, and stem cell transplants. Neuroblastoma and Acute Leukemia are examples of curable childhood cancers that can be lethal if not properly treated. Those treatments are very costly and are not currently available in Lebanon. Now, more than ever, these pure kids are desperate for a glimpse of hope and a chance to live in a hopefully better world.

You can read more here about the Lebanese crisis and its impact on children with cancer.

Thank you.
