Story

Imagine being told that you will never walk again. Every four hours someone in the UK receives this devastating news. Spinal cord injury could happen to any of us, at any time, as a result of an accident or illness. Paralysis limits mobility, affects bowel, bladder and sexual function and in severe cases can result in ventilator dependency. Without the right support, spinal cord injured people are vulnerable to social isolation and depression, as well as life-threatening risks to their health caused by inappropriate care.

The impact of coronavirus on SCI people is being felt across the country, and demand for our services is at an all-time high. This is at the same time as our calendar of fundraising events being cancelled due to the need for restrictions on social gatherings.

We are facing a loss in income of £1million, so your support has never been more needed or appreciated.

Unfortunately, the golf day we had planned for 2020 had to be postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. But we didn't want that to stop us enjoying a round of golf to raise vital funds for SIA, so we are delighted that you have decided to join us for our first ever Virtual Golf Tournament!

Please make your donation of £20 per person to enter our Virtual Golf Tournament on this page, or for other ways to donate call 01908 604 191

What's involved?

Sign up with a friend or colleague to take part, make a donation to support our work, and, to be in with a chance of winning an amazing prize, send us your combined scores from a full round of golf (stableford scoring). However: as there are 33 vertebra in the spinal cord, we will only be counting your 33 lowest scoring holes towards your team total!

Send your scores to us with some photographic evidence, and at the end of our tournament we will announce the winners at a Virtual Prize Giving (on Thursday 29th October)

We will also be encouraging all players to take part in our virtual long drive competition, so make sure you send us proof of your best efforts whilst warming up on the range, with the winners getting a very special prize too!

When?

Play any day or time to suit you between Saturday 10 to Sunday 25 October 2020.

The Virtual Prize Giving (featuring guest speaker, Terry Kirby from The Handigolf Foundation) will be on Thursday 29 October, time tbc.

Where?

Your local golf club. Why not see if they want to get involved too? The more the merrier! Send them details about how to sign up or tell them to contact Alison on a.hayward@spinal.co.uk or call 07964 457980.

How?

Make your donation here (suggested donation of £20 per person), and Alison from our fundraising team will be in touch with you. Everyone who enters will receive an SIA golf gift, and have a chance to win some top prizes!

Why?

To have fun playing a round of golf, all while making a difference for SCI people.

Any questions?

Get in touch with Alison Hayward, Partnerships Coordinator (North) on a.hayward@spinal.co.uk or 07964 457980.

Please ensure that you follow all government guidance and the safety measures that have been put in place by your local golf club when taking part in the SIA Virtual Golf Tournament. Please check for any local restrictions, always remember to maintain social distancing and practice good hygiene.
