JIOP provides diverse law students summer internships with a state or federal judge in 12 cities. JIOP accepts applications from students who are members of racial and ethnic groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the profession. For the past 21 years, JIOP has been promoting quality in legal education, equal access to justice, a better understanding of the law, and improvements in our justice system.
For someone whose understanding of how a courtroom operated was based entirely on what I viewed on television, JIOP was an eye-opening experience. The opportunity to extern for a federal judge inspired and informed the kind of lawyer I wanted to be - a litigator who would uphold the highest standards of professional conduct and excellence. -Alexander Giraldo, JIOP 2015
