Story
The inspiration behind this 5k came from a desire to give something back to a charity that has meant a lot to me personally and to many staff and students at Tolworth. In January 2020, I was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer. I was not the first, nor will I be the last member of staff to be diagnosed with Cancer. Having undergone chemotherapy ever since the normality and the support from the staff and students a Tolworth has been a lifeline to me. They say everyday in teaching is different, and thats the reason and motivation I had to leap out of bed in the morning!
I wanted to create an event run by students, for students and to the benefit of the community both local and widespread. The result, is the TG5k. This day is being organised by 11 incredible Year 10 students and a group of staff, many of whom have been affected by cancer themselves. Our aim is to give students and the community a day in the (hopeful) sunshine celebrating the students efforts through the hardest of years, and making money to ensure Macmillan can continue its incredible and vital work. Alongside the run, we will be having food, music, fun, games and entertainment, so please come along on the day to cheer on the students.
We would appreciate any donation, little or large. This donation doesnt just mean Macmillan can do its work its a donation in support of the students, a pat on the back to them and will inspire them to take on the 5k, their way.
