Story
ESU's A Cappella Choir provides students with a rigorous and challenging experience of rehearsing and performing choral music at a high artistic level. With a rich regional, national, and international performance history, the ESU A Cappella Choir sings a wide variety of standard choral literature from numerous eras and diverse cultures.
A Cappella Choir was recently invited to represent ESU and the state of Kansas in a concert series commemorating the 60th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr.s I Have a Dream Speech. The students will present concerts throughout D.C., singing music speaking on the inequities Black and African American communities face, while challenging performers and audience members alike to be more compassionate, empathetic, and motivated for change. The group will have the opportunity to visit museums, memorials, and participate in a special wreath-laying ceremony in honor of Dr. King. This trip will offer our students the chance to learn and grow but will also offer the opportunity to bring awareness to this momentous occasion and represent the Emporia community.
