Artsbound, a fundraising initiative led by the School of Drama's graduating class of actors and directors to finance our Senior Showcase, is an invaluable opportunity to make our first impression on the theatre and film industry.
In the fall, we thoughtfully select and rehearse scenes and songs that show off our individual talents and strengths. During the next semester we travel to New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Atlanta not only to present our work and explore the four different markets in person but also to engage face to face with numerous reputable talent agents, managers, casting directors, and artistic directors. In addition, we film our scenes and songs to create a Virtual Showcase that will make our work accessible to hundreds of more industry professionals and potential employers.
My team of representatives have opened doors I only ever dreamed of. I cannot begin to express how meaningful it is to have a team of people who believe in you and are there to guide you as you start your career. Elizabeth Lail (Drama 14)
Making these professional connections is a crucial step forward in any young actor's career and the School of Drama at UNCSA has a record of great success. Over the past two years alone, Showcase has helped connect over 50% of actors with the top talent agencies and managers in America, allowing many students to land their first job as soon as they graduate.
We know many of you are in changing financial circumstances during an unprecedented economic crisis and global pandemic. But we believe that in times of great chaos and tragedy, art is more important than ever. We know this project is vital to our success post-graduation, but our senior showcase will cost a large sum for us to book venues and make travel arrangements to four different cities, especially considering added expenses due to the necessary safety precautions..
Showcase was an invaluable opportunity to expose me to casting directors, agents and managers. Regardless of the immediate results of that experience it allows the actor to be seen by multiple people at the same time. Even if the actor doesnt garner immediate representations from the showcase they are being seen by a multitude of people, who they may have relationships with year later. Mary Louise Parker (Drama 86)
To reach our goal this year, we have been extra creative and innovative with fundraising; we are transferring our usual yard sale to Instagram and hosting a cabaret that will be streamed to you live. But it is still not enough. We invite you to invest in our futures and dreams as artists of tomorrow by making a gift in any amount that you can give during this difficult time. We are so grateful for your support.
