Story
“So many people my age are hesitant to try new things for fear we’ll be out of place—the only person of color, the only one who doesn’t know exactly what we’re doing. We’ve been told countless times that these spaces aren’t for us… the All Stars Project helped me, and others, feel like we belong." — Diego, 17
All Stars Project (ASP) is a national nonprofit transforming the lives of young people and communities through the power of performance. With chapters in New York City, New Jersey, Chicago, Dallas, the San Francisco Bay Area and virtually nationwide, ASP creates high-quality FREE programs for youth from low-income neighborhoods to grow, build confidence, and connect with caring adults across lines of race, class, and culture.
Our hallmark initiative, the Development School for Youth (DSY), is a 10-week afterschool program offered each fall and spring that brings young people, ages 16–21, into a series of performance-based professional workshops led by our corporate partners. Through these workshops, participants strengthen skills in public speaking, résumé writing, interviewing, and business etiquette. Graduates then step into paid summer internships that have opened doors and launched thousands of careers.
“Because of the All Stars Project, I started college with not just savings but with professional skills, real-world experience, and the confidence to perform in every room I entered.” — Kiaya, 25
That is the power of our development-through-performance model. Since 1997, over 7,000 young people have graduated from the DSY, and ASP has secured 5,725 paid internships with 575 partner companies.
