Story
This Spring, the Cal Poly Humboldt Library will be receiving a new flight simulator. Students can work with a certified flight instructor and use the new flight simulator to learn how to fly. Your gift will help pay for a local flight instructor to come to the university and work one-on-one with students who wish to learn to fly. Federal Aviation Regulations allow for advanced aviation training devices, like the one the library is receiving, to be used with an instructor for some aspects of primary flight instruction. Time spent in a simulator with a flight instructor can be logged in a student’s flight logbook towards obtaining a private pilot license.
The Cal Poly Humboldt Aviation Club has been instrumental in promoting and raising funds for Library Aviation. Orion Nichols, President of the Aviation Club commented,
I want to help inspire students who seek to become involved in aviation. Since I was a child, it has been my goal to become a pilot and fly. Unfortunately, many people do not get the opportunity to pursue this goal because of the high cost.”
