At the YMCA, we believe in empowering Arizona's youth through civic engagement. We are proud to offer the Arizona Youth and Government program, which has provided hands-on leadership training for over 75 years.
Every December, our student delegates experience what it's like to sit in an elected leader's seat and run a mock legislative session. These future leaders meet weekly from August through December to learn about public policy; they prepare bills, newspaper articles, and court cases for this capstone event. Once they arrive arrive at the state capitol they sit in the Senate or the House of Representatives to propose and vote on bills written by their peers. This 3-day conference allows students to see the inner workings of democracy and our state government while also building lasting friendships with their peers.
