The Denver Art Museum has for decades collected contemporary works by artists such as El Anatsui, Mark Bradford, Jordan Casteel, Sam Gilliam, Kerry James Marshall, Simphiwe Ndzube, Senga Nengudi, Lorna Simpson, and Shinique Smith. We seek to further expand and enrich our collection with artistic practices that increasingly reflect the museum’s diverse audiences and global collections. The museum is building a comprehensive collection of Black arts that features the best of historic and contemporary objects across the entire collection, including textiles and fashion, design, and more.
The Denver Art Museum’s collection of works by African, African Diaspora, and African American artists have been formed thanks to numerous donors who contributed gifts of art, as well as funds, for historic and contemporary artworks. The museum is committed to expanding our collection in this important area and we invite you to make an impact far into the future.
Support the Black Arts Collective to help shape and support a key initiative of acquiring contemporary art by Black artists for the museum’s permanent collection.
