The Atlanta Police Foundation’s Childcare Incentive Program (CHIP) provides crucial financial support to the working mothers and fathers of the Atlanta Police Department. For the officers who serve and protect our communities each day, the burden of childcare is more than an inconvenience—it’s a barrier to stability.

Nearly 59% of officers have reported missing work or leaving the job altogether due to childcare challenges. This impact is even greater for the 1 in 4 officers working overnight shifts, as only 6% of childcare providers offer care during these hours. For many, the cost of care is simply out of reach—childcare can consume up to 65% of a family’s income in some communities.

CHIP directly alleviates this financial pressure by providing childcare assistance, empowering officers to stay focused on their vital work while knowing their children are safe and cared for.
