Story
Every Monday between 2:30 and 5:00 PM, guests can select items they need for the week (underwear, socks, soap, body lotion, feminine hygiene items, hand sanitizer, etc.). Due to inflation and rising prices, our personal care program saw an increase in items distributed compared to 2021. More than 76% of our guests take advantage of the personal care service each week.
Valerie and her partner have been coming to the Kitchen for meals for the past four months. They are living in a tent in Camden and trying to get back on their feet. Valerie says,
Cathedral Kitchen does so much for the homeless. The staff and volunteers really care about everyone that comes here. The food is amazing and the personal hygiene items really help. Things like underwear and socks help me get through each week. Most people take these things for granted. Cathedral Kitchen really goes above and beyond.
Ken served in the Army and held manual labor jobs for most of his life until he suffered a stroke a few years ago. He says,
The pandemic has made it very difficult for me to find work. I come to Cathedral Kitchen for meals whenever I can. Its hard for some people to put their pride aside and come here but I really appreciate the good food and the personal care items I receive. The shaving gear and socks I am able to pick up have really helped me to get by. I especially appreciate the gloves and hat I received this winter since it has been so cold.
