Story
Craner's Cause
Craner’s Cause is a fundraising initiative launched by the Sarnia Sting Hockey Club to honour the memory of long-time scout and beloved teammate, Kyle Craner. Kyle spent 10 years with the organization, and was a pillar of positivity and dedication, contributing countless hours to player evaluation and development.
This season, the Sting will donate $10 for every goal scored - both home and away, during the 2025–26 OHL regular season, in support of Bluewater Health’s Cancer Clinic redevelopment project. Fans and community members are encouraged to match or contribute what they can, as we collectively pursue a goal of $10,000 raised!
Kyle's story:
After years of misdiagnoses and medical uncertainty, Kyle was diagnosed in 2013 with a Grade 2 astrocytoma, a cancerous but slow-growing brain tumour. Despite multiple surgeries and continuous treatment, Kyle never allowed his diagnosis to define him.
He began his scouting career shortly after his first surgery and joined the Sarnia Sting as a regional scout in 2015. His work ethic, hockey acumen, and unshakably kind spirit have made him an integral part of the Sting family.
In July 2021, Kyle’s tumour progressed to a Grade 4 Glioblastoma. Though surgery was no longer an option, he bravely continued treatment through chemotherapy and immunotherapy, all while maintaining his involvement with the Sting, watching video, tracking prospects, and contributing in any way he could.
Kyle’s courage was nothing short of inspirational. Craner’s Cause is our way of honouring his memory.
