This year has been Capital Region Land Conservancy’s most productive year for land conservation thanks to our generous supporters. By year’s end, we will have completed 15 projects protecting over 1,260 acres with conservation easements as well as the acquisition of 174 acres of strategically important land. That’s nearly 1,500 acres! It’s also a 50% increase over the lands we conserved in 2023.

We are a lean, efficient operation, but our efforts are only as good as our capacity. The demand for our work is skyrocketing. We currently have 24 projects in the pipeline to protect another 3,500 acres. This aggressive goal will require closing a real estate transaction every two weeks in 2025. To ensure the resources to meet this growing demand, we need your help!

Increasing your annual donation will accelerate the pace by which we can protect the places and land you love. CRLC is doing everything we can to leverage your donations. In 2024, we have been awarded more than $5 million in grant funding that goes directly to the purchase of land and conservation easements. For every $50 donated, CRLC has been able to raise an additional $5,000: That’s a 100-fold return on your investment!

You don’t have to be a farmer to consider the importance of conserving agricultural lands and how it impacts everyone’s access to food. You don’t have to be a hiker to consider the importance of access to greenspaces and how those spaces impact the health of our community. You don’t have to be a scholar to consider the importance of conserving historic sites that offer perspective on who we are and how we got here. The region we belong to is diverse, and so too must our efforts be.

Over the last 19 years, CRLC has protected more than 14,000 acres of land throughout the Richmond Region. Today, our new Strategic Plan extends our land conservation efforts to an even broader constituency as we expand our service area to combat increased development in the Commonwealth’s fastest growing region.
