The Middlebury Cycling Team encompasses bikers who just want to get out and explore Vermont to those who compete at the national level. Our club is not only about racing; we organize weekly group rides for students on campus to discover new roads and eat dinner together afterwards, and brought 20 riders on a camping MTB trip this past fall! Anyone at Middlebury can use a bike from our current fleet of one mountain bike and one road bike (wed love to expand; it's no secret that cycling expenses are a huge barrier to entry).
When it does come to racing, we're pretty good. Last season, we had record numbers of both women and men participating, putting our team near the top of the leaderboards each week. Racers competed at all levels from category C up to category A. To cap off a great season, our top rider attended mountain bike nationals in Durango, CO where he placed 26th overall and top from the Eastern conference!
The world of cycling is expanding and our team hopes to be a catalyst to that change. USA Cycling will elect a new director of collegiate cycling for the coming year and direct more funds in our conferences direction. The gravel scene is absolutely taking off (especially here in VT!). More people than ever are riding bikes and we hope to continue to grow our program in support of the racers and the goofballs among us who just want to get out and ride!
