Cal Poly Humboldt students enjoy an extraordinary college experience, taking small classes taught by professors who know them by name. They live and learn in one of the world's most beautiful places—near ancient redwood forests, mountains and beaches.

Story

The Engineering & Community Practice program is among the first of its kind in the United States as an Indigenous-centered engineering program. It is a collaboration between Cal Poly Humboldt’s School of Engineering and the Department of Native American Studies with associated faculty and curriculum in both areas. Students in the program complete a year-long engineering project with an Indigenous Nation with a focus on Indigenizing engineering practice and learning how to build relationships and projects in a meaningful way that focuses on respect, reciprocity, responsibility, and reverence.

Your gift will support students in their pursuit of this degree and help to fill in gaps in their financial support. Due to the fast-paced and accelerated nature of the program, students have limited employment opportunities to support their education, and as a brand-new program, there are no scholarships currently available. Many students in the program come from underserved communities themselves but choose to take on this extra financial burden for the opportunity to better serve the world.

With your support, these students can pursue their dreams of obtaining a graduate education in a way that honors and centers Indigenous knowledges, practices, and communities.
