Ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T) is a genetic disease that causes loss of muscle control & balance, cancer, lung disease & immune system problems in children & young adults. We support innovative research to optimize disease management, develop new treatments and find a cure.

Story

Imagine a disease that combines the worst symptoms of muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, immune deficiencies and oftentimes brings cancer. Children and young adults with A-T struggle with all things that we take for granted like walking, talking, eating, playing, focusing their eyes...the list goes on.

Join the Education Organization virtual walkathon weekend when #EtownWalksForAT and let's walk towards a cure one step at a time!

Here's how you can walk it out for A-T:

1) Register for FREE by clicking "Start Fundraising". Create or join an already existing team. If you are creating a team, choose to name it after your favorite children's book!

2) Be your first donor! Since there is no registration fee for this event, we encourage you to make your first donation of $10 or more to your own fundraising page. Donors are more likely to donate to your page when they see that you've donated too!

3) If you'd like, Join the A-T Children's Project on Strava to track the miles you walk on walkathon weekend. You can also link your Strava account to your fundraising page to share your walkathon progress with your donors!

4) For the month of April, share your fundraising page and fundraise! Let's see how much each team can raise to cure A-T!

5) Join us virtually on walkathon weekend! Walk anywhere, at any time between April 23-25. If you have Strava, remember to track your miles! Please follow local social distancing guidelines while participating in this event.

6) Submit your miles after walkathon weekend. Remember to use a fitness tracking app to record your exact mileage. You will receive a questionnaire via email for you to submit your miles completed. Mileage will be based off of the honor system but we do encourage you to track your miles with us using Strava ! Answers from the questionnaire will determine which team has completed the most miles walkathon weekend.

7) After you've completed your walkathon, celebrate by printing out your downloadable Walkathon Completion Certificate ! Remember to share photos using the hashtag #EtownWalksForAT

8) There will be competitive categories for this event. Winners of the following categories will be announced April 30 at atcp.org/EtownWalksForAT .

-Walkathon team that raises the most money for A-T by April 29.

-Walkathon participant with the most creative costume.

*Dress up like a character from your team's chosen children's book!

-Walkathon team that walks the most miles for A-T walkathon weekend (based off of miles submitted in questionnaire).
