What Families Are Facing Today?
We’re living in unprecedented times when families are struggling now more than ever. With the anticipated cuts to SNAP and WIC benefits both due to the federal government shutdown and the proposed new federal budget, including the anticipated astronomical increases to healthcare costs we are anticipating a crisis in our social safety net over the next year or more.
Critical sources of federal funding that once helped keep people nourished have disappeared. Recent federal and medical program cuts have reduced support for local farms and food access initiatives, and many of our neighbors are in survival mode.
Urban Tilth knows that there is a growing need for our FREE food box programs, the FREE CSA and FREE Farm Stand in the immediate future. In order to meet this anticipated need, we are proactively launching the Family to Family Campaign so that families can help each other through this crisis by helping to raise the critical funds needed to feed our neighbors in need.
This Giving Tuesday, join the Family to Family Campaign! Help us strengthen our local safety net and ensure that Urban Tilth can continue, and hopefully increase deliveries of fresh, healthy produce to families in need through 2026…
Here’s how you can help:
Make a Donation TODAY
$2,500 provides healthy food for four person family for a year
$200 provides healthy food for four person family for a month
$50 provides healthy food for four person family for a week
Become a Family to Family Champion by setting up your own fundraising page and pledging to raise $2,500 from your network
How to become a Family to Family Champion:
1. Click “Start Fundraising” in the top right corner of our campaign page.
2. Follow the prompts to create your fundraising page.
3. Set your goal, must be a minimum of $500, ideally $2,500 or more.
4. Add a photo of yourself or your favorite Urban Tilth moment.
5. Write a brief story about why you’re raising funds for Richmond families.
6. Share your page with friends, family, and social networks to rally support.
7. You must raise a minimum of $500 to be registered for the Oakland Running Festival free of charge.
8. Anyone who reaches the $2,500 goal, at any phase, will receive a limited edition Urban Tilth Apron as a thank you!

*Although we would love to run with you, you do not have to run a race to become a Family to Family champion: all you have to do is pledge to raise $2,500. You can do that by hosting a fundraiser, or rally your coworkers, friends, and family to reach your pledge goal.
If you would like to run with Team Tilth 2026, email michelle@urbantilth.org after you’ve created your fundraising page so she can help get you signed up for the race of your choice. Urban Tilth will cover all race fees for Team Tilth champions who raise a minimum of $500.
Our Plan
Our overall goal is to raise $45,000 by March 22, 2026. We aim to do this in 3 milestones.
Milestone #1: $15,000 by Giving Tuesday
Milestone #2: $30,000 by end of 2025 (Dec 31, 2025 midnight)
Milestone #3: $45,000 by 2026 Team Tilth Race Day at the Oakland Running Festival (March 22, 2026)
Your support with this first milestone helps plant the seeds for a season of giving that we will grow through March 2026.
