Story
Located steps from the Chelsea galleries and close to many top arts and cultural institutions, FIT draws on New York City’s resources to immerse students in an unparalleled education in Fine Arts.
Through formal training in visual literacy, critical discourse and material exploration, our programs offer students rigorous formal, conceptual, and analytical training to prepare them to be creative makers, thinkers, and problem solvers. Students are transformed through their course of study and they graduate having developed an individualized artistic voice and body of work which they present in their thesis exhibition. Our program further prepares students with professional skills by providing opportunities forstudents and alumni to build networks, connecting students with professional communities beyond FIT, and offering ongoing connection and support beyond graduation.
Consider giving a gift to the Fine Arts Department today.
All students deserve to have the materials needed to do their best work and to raise their ambitions beyond the limits of economic barriers. By making a gift to the Fine Arts program, you are elevating and enabling promising students to pursue their dreams as developing artists and to reach their full potential.
$50 - Equip a student to do their best with tools to succeed
Your gift of $50 contributes to consumable and reusable materials that students will use in their courses as they learn. Donated funds contribute to an equitable learning experience, offering students in need of materials the supplies needed to succeed in their courses.
These materials may be a supplies kit for a Painting I course, and typically will include a spectrum of supplies such as oil and acrylic paint, mediums, brushes, canvas, stretcher frames, paper, drawing materials, printmaking tools and plates, clay and armature, casting materials, woodworking hand tools, wood, hardware, as well as protective safety gear.
To give an idea of how much students spend on materials in just one semester, their first painting class alone costs, on average, about $500.
$100 - Support innovation, experimentation, and risk taking
Your gift of $100 will support ambitious students who need extra support in order to realize their vision. The development of an individual artistic voice requires the imagination to envision, freedom to explore, risk taking, and testing the boundaries of your ideas and materials. As students' ideas grow, larger projects require investment in materials. Your gift can help students transform those ideas to real life by providing the materials needed for expanded exploration.
$250 - Investing in the future
Your gift of $250 invests in the expansion of the tools and processes we offer our students, from upgrading equipment in our Sculpture studios such as adding a CNC Router, expanding welding equipment, improving inking surfaces and equipment in the Printmaking studio, upgrading the taborets to include reusable glass tops in the Painting studios, and upgrading and expanding the Ceramics facilities.
$500 - Creating pathways into the professional field
Your gift of $500 will support students through programming to bring guest speakers, guest critics, alumni speakers, and to invite jurors and critics for exhibitions and events on and off campus. This support will also help the program to partner with galleries in New York City to host external exhibitions, raising the profile of the program, offering students first hand professional experience working with a gallery. These opportunities will connect students with industry leaders and begin to build a network of professionals that can create pathways for them after graduation.
