Story
Alternative Family Services has provided 24/7 foster care, adoption and mental health support to the most vulnerable youth across the Greater Bay and Metropolitan Sacramento Areas for over 40 years. When the world abruptly changed, our fearless staff flew into action to commit to our #1 priority: Keeping children safe, no matter what.
Despite COVID-19 challenges, AFS has placed 113 more children from vulnerable environments to safe and welcoming homes since March 1st and continue to do so.
One of the most critical risks AFS families now face is accessing continuing education for foster youth. In response to this need, our final week of Foster Hope will highlight the new essential technology needs.
Foster homes need laptops to support distance learning. AFS is committed to the goal of reunification and therapeutic visitation with biological family is a vital part of this process. This critical service is now limited to online conferencing technology.
An anonymous donor will match all donations this week up to $5,000! Your donation may help:

-$250 will provide a Chromebook or laptop for a foster youth who now learn at home.
-$100 will cover the cost of an infrared thermometer allowing staff to safely test foster youth and family during visitation in the home.
