Story
As the cost of living continues to soar including the inflated cost of gas, housing and other essentials, Canadians are feeling the economic pinch. Food prices have hit all-time highs surpassing last year’s increases. In fact, Canadians paid 10% more for groceries last year compared to prior years and this year is no different with 2023 forecasts predicting food prices have increased an additional 5-7%. The need has never been greater for vulnerable students as more students than ever are relying on donations from The Sharing Shop — Fanshawe’s on-campus food bank — to make ends meet.
Impact
We are encouraging our Fanshawe community to help by making a secure online donation this Giving Tuesday toward the purchase of grocery gift cards for Fanshawe students in need. Last year, our community generously funded just over $25,000 worth of groceries for Fanshawe students. Currently, 10% of Fanshawe students access the Sharing Shop and unfortunately, this number is expected to rise.
Our goal is to buy one day's worth of groceries for at least 3,000 Fanshawe students over the course of next year. Any amount will help Fanshawe students access the necessities:
- a $10 donation will buy a student groceries for one day;
- a $75 donation will support a student for a week;
- a $300 donation will help a student purchase groceries for an entire month!
Plus, all donations up to $20,000 will be matched dollar-for-dollar by The Fanshawe Alumni Association which means you can double the impact of your gift! You can feel great knowing every dollar of your gift will support Fanshawe students in need. You will also be issued a charitable tax receipt from Fanshawe College Foundation for gifts over $20.
Thank you for your generosity as we enter the holiday season. Your donation will make a real difference to Fanshawe students who need it most.
