Build Healthy Futures Beyond COVID

Given the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in Chicago and neighboring communities, Legal Council for Health Justice once again cancelled our biggest fundraiser of the year. Although all of us at Legal Council were looking forward to the return of in-person celebrations, our responsibility to protect the health and well-being of our supporters, staff, and the communities we serve is more important. However, this leaves us with the massive challenge of closing the gap in our fundraising goal before the end of 2021.

Despite these challenges, our advocates continue to fight for health justice. There has always been a profound scarcity of free legal aid in communities with great need, and with the pandemic this resource has become even scarcer. Stark inequities rooted in centuries of systemic racism, stigma, and discrimination deny health and wellness to many. That is why we wield our legal expertise to help those facing barriers to healthcare, food assistance, housing support, special education, and more.
