The Warrior Who Saved His Partner is Coming Home
A legacy of 200 deployments, one Purple Heart, and a bond that couldn't be broken.
In the world of police work, they say you don’t choose your partner—fate does. For Senior Corporal Scott Jay, fate arrived in April 2022 in the form of a Belgian Malinois named Figor.
Figor wasn’t just a dog; he was a Dual Purpose Police Service Dog (Badge #131). Trained in both narcotics detection and high-stakes "man-hunting," he spent four years on the front lines of the Dallas Police Department. From his very first day—where he took a kilo of methamphetamine off the streets—to his final deployments, Figor was a force of nature.
The Day Everything Changed
Figor’s career is defined by more than just stats. It is defined by a moment of ultimate sacrifice. During a violent encounter, Figor was shot while protecting Scott. He didn't hesitate. He did exactly what he was trained to do: he put himself between his partner and danger.
For his bravery, Figor was awarded the Star of Texas and the Purple Heart. But for Scott, Figor was more than a decorated hero—he was the reason Scott was able to come home to his family. During their recovery, the two leaned on each other in a way only partners can.
From Elite K9 to "Barn Dog"
While Figor’s professional life was filled with 134 deployments (finishing his career with 200) and the pursuit of violent felons, his "off-duty" life tells a different story.
When the tactical vest comes off at their farm in Ferris, Texas, the fierce protector disappears. In his place is a dog who loves nothing more than lounging in the sun and checking in on his unlikely best friends: the cats that live in Scott’s barn.
Why Figor Needs You
After four years of relentless service and surviving a line-of-duty shooting, Figor’s body has felt the weight of his work. As Scott moves into a new tactical position, the department has agreed it is time for Figor to retire.
But retirement for a K9 hero comes with a cost.
When a police dog retires, the financial responsibility for their specialized medical care, physical therapy, and daily needs shifts entirely to their handler. After all Figor has done for the city of Dallas—and for Scott—we believe he shouldn't have to worry about a thing.
