As part of his technical writing course at SLCC, 25-year-old Gino Gazani, who graduated from the college in 2020, got to pair his language and writing skills to benefit a local Spanish-speaking community.
Gazani completed the translation of several emergency procedure documents for Esperanza Elementary as part of his coursework, ensuring the concepts made sense from a differing cultural perspective as well.
"Taking this class was very helpful to fine tune my abilities in technical writing and to further improve my nursing communication skills," he said. "I highly encourage students to take a service-learning class as it challenges you to learn the information and put it into practice with real-life scenarios."
Gazani earned his associate's degree in nursing from SLCC and plans transfer to a university to complete his bachelor's degree.
