Story

At a time when few women of any ethnicity graduated from college, Thelma Fae Smith did. She became one of the first African-American graduates of Harding College’s Master of Arts in Teaching program. Her life’s dedication was teaching English and American Literature in segregated and integrated schools, as well as teaching English for GED classes to WWII veterans.

Mrs. Smith served her community for over 30 years as a leader and model of excellence to all who had the privilege to know her. As both an educator and an inspiration, she touched the lives of many.
