Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is a historically African American fraternity founded January 5, 1911, at Indiana University Bloomington. It is the beautiful realization of a vision shared commonly by ten (10) African American men. The name of the fraternity was changed from its original name of Kappa Alpha Nu to Kappa Alpha Psi in 1915. The fraternity is unique among other National Pan Hellenic Council organizations in that it has two names: Kappa Alpha Psi and Phi Nu Pi. This second name is the source of the nickname of its members, “Nupes”.
The Xi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi was founded on the campus of Howard University on December 27, 1920. “A Kappa man must be good; upright, moral and manly.” – Founder Elder Watson Diggs
