In recognition of Independence Day, and in honor of the independence made possible by PAWS Assistance Dogs, we invite you to participate in this years PAWS To Raise Independence campaign.
At Paws With A Cause, we want every day to be Independence Day for our clients!
PAWS Client Asher Thayer describes how her Assistance Dog gives her independence by retrieving dropped items. Asher told us,
I used to wait until there were 15 things on the ground to feel like it was justified for either me getting on the ground to crawl around on the floor to get the items and getting back up into my wheelchair or calling someone to have them take time out of their busy schedule to come help me for a few minutes. Instead FUJI does that now!
This seemingly small task performed by FUJI has increased Asher's feelings of independence and dignity now that she does not require someone else's time and energy to perform everyday chores.
Over the past forty years, the need and desire for Assistance Dogs has only increased. Each year, PAWS receives over 1,000 requests for applications, which results in 400 qualified applicants. With our current capacity, PAWS trains and places between 65-75 dogs annually. This means that 92% of the people inquiring do not obtain the transformative benefits of a PAWS Assistance Dog like Asher has with FUJI.
With your support PAWS can equip even more people with an Assistance Dog. PAWS To Raise Independence offers an opportunity for you, your family, and friends to participate in our mission to enhance the quality of life and INDEPENDENCE for people with disabilities through custom-trained Assistance Dogs.
