Story
Help us level the playing field and ensure that all St Louis kids have what they need to succeed in the classroom.
Since 2001, KidSmart has distributed more than $92 Million in FREE essential tools and resources to over 220,000 students and we will reach over $100 Million in distributed school supplies and resources this next school year with your help!
KidSmart is one of 48 similar grassroots organizations throughout the country working to increase the educational opportunities of children living in underserved communities. KidSmart has grown exponentially since 2002, and thanks to the generous support of individuals, foundations, and corporations, we are now able to distribute more than $7 million in educational materials annually to 90,000 economically disadvantaged students in the St Louis area.
KidSmart distributes supplies to children in need through the unique "Free Store" concept, directly into classrooms and schools with "On The Go" deliveries to schools and currently through seasonal "Drive Thru" events. KidSmart is a community wide collaboration which transforms surplus products donated from individuals and corporations into a stable resource for children who are at the greatest risk of failing in our education system.
KidSmart's goal is to assure ALL children have access to necessary and enriching learning materials that will enable them. to succeed in school and prepare for their role as our future civic and business leaders.
Though the mission has grown, the mission has always remained the same. KidSmart empowers children in need to succeed in school by providing free essential tools for learning. KidSmart is driven by the belief that education can break the cycle of poverty.
Access to free basic school supplies contributes significantly to improving children's classroom behavior, and empowers them to overcome challenging situations at home.
When students have the supplies they need, test scores rise, absenteeism drops, and disruptive behavior decreases.
Children can overcome hard economic situations if they are cared for and have the basic tools they need to succeed.
When parents can barely afford rent, groceries or utilities each month, school supplies cannot be a priority. Help us level the playing field and ensure that all St Louis kids have what they need to succeed in the classroom.
