This is the first year ever KY will be sending teams to compete at the National 4-H Shooting Sports Championship. Adding this opportunity for our youth within the 4-H shooting sports program will provide an additional goal for them to work towards during their time within the program. Additionally, competing at the national level will bring greater awareness to our program and what it has to offer youth throughout the commonwealth regarding shooting sports. For the 2022 National Championship Kentucky will only be sending teams (Shotgun and Muzzleloading) to compete in two of the nine disciplines offered during the event. It is our hope that by sending these two initial teams interest and support for sending more teams will grow and we will in time be able to send a full showing of 9 teams, consisting of 36 youth to compete.

Participation on our KY Shotgun and Muzzleloading Teams is a two-step process. First, the top 8 eligible youth in each discipline are selected after competing in our State Competition held in September. These 16 youth make up our KY Gold Teams. For the next 8 months these youth will work with a certified instructor in their discipline, practicing and developing the necessary skills required to compete at the national level. In the spring, individuals from each Gold Team will compete amongst themselves to select the top 4 youth who will then make up the KY National Teams. These 8 youth will travel to Grand Island, Nebraska in June 2022 to compete at the National Championship.
