The ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund (LOSF) infuses the legal profession with diversity, equity, and inclusion while empowering students of color as they embark on their rigorous academic journey to becoming an attorney. A significant aspect of ensuring a diverse pipeline to the profession lies in financially supporting more law students so they can focus and excel in their studies.
Each year, the ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund awards up to 20 diverse students with a $15,000 commitment, payable over the three years of law school, to offset the rising costs of a law degree. These exceptionally talented and deeply committed recipients share a passion for public or pro bono service and continue to champion justice long after law school. A bold investment of charitable dollars means that these students graduate with less financial burden and are positioned to pursue careers in public service or private practice that benefit their communities.
Meet these Scholars -- they exemplify the other Scholarship recipients who are rising to the call for a legal profession that reflects the people it serves.
As the daughter of Vietnamese immigrants, I remember thinking about possible occupations to pursue, but I felt trapped with my options. Now as a student at UC Hastings College of the Law, I am part of the Hastings Health Law Organization and the Vietnamese American Law Society learning to understand the needs of populations I would like to serve.

The communities I represent in my solo practice communities at the intersection of multiple disenfranchised identities e.g. race, sex, gender non-conforming, class, etc.deserve to have an opportunity to receive some form of redress for constitutional violations. My fuel for practicing civil rights stems from an unrelenting hope in the American ideals that have yet to be realized. With my work, I hope to pick up the torch of my predecessors and make meaningful contributions toward an equitable and just society.
