Business training in Kenya
In the Likii community, located within Kenya’s Central Rift Valley region, most children and their families live in extreme poverty. Without high levels of unemployment, limited resources in the area and few job opportunities, caregivers have struggled to establish meaningful careers.
With your generous gift, 40 caregivers from Likii will have the opportunity to grow their small business ventures. Your support will allow all participants to attend a series of six training workshops over a period of two weeks, where they will learn crucial skills in topics such as financial literacy, market access, business management and entrepreneurship. Caregivers will submit funding proposals to receive business grants, allowing them to invest in their businesses and create sustainable, long-term businesses.
Mentorship networks will be established, providing participants with apprenticeship and self-employment opportunities and ensuring each caregiver has the support they need to succeed. In addition, caregivers will be placed into peer-support groups, which will allow them to share experiences, exchange ideas and solve challenges collaboratively. These networks will help participants build confidence, create a sense of community and empower caregivers to grow their businesses to break generational cycles of poverty.
Moms and Babies in Ecuador
Of the 5.2 million children who die around the world each year, 75 per cent die in the first year of life. Babies are at risk of death due to premature birth complications, complications during childbirth, infections, pneumonia and diarrhea. But this is preventable. With training and support, moms in poverty can be empowered to raise healthy and happy babies.
Your gift will enable our local church partner in Otavalo to help 15 moms and babies not just survive but thrive! Your support helps secure access to pre- and postnatal care, skilled birth attendants and medical intervention when necessary. Mothers are visited in their homes monthly by a Survival specialist, who offers education in prenatal care and early child-rearing as well as one-on-one biblical mentoring. At church-based group activities moms learn skills to earn an income and gain vital knowledge including basic literacy, the importance of breastfeeding and how to prevent malnutrition and disease. These groups combat isolation through a supportive community of mothers who, together, learn about the God who loves them.
