A special Mercadito Solidario will be held in honor of Marcia Lerner by her sisters Rachel & Sharon Lerner, and husband Gabriel Brownstein on Saturday, October 28, 2023.

As Marcia was a passionate advocate for food justice, her family is holding a special Mercadito Solidario in collaboration with Mixteca Organization, who exists to enrich, equip, and empower the Latinx community in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, and beyond.

Inaugurated during the Covid-19 pandemic, Mercadito Solidario is a weekly food distribution providing the Latinx community in Sunset Park with fresh nutritious foods such as: fruits and vegetables, including jalapeños, tomatillos, tortillas, plants and herbs, that oftentimes are only found in their communities home countries. Access to these items allows the community to prepare nutritious meals for their families using ingredients that are not only nutritious but culturally familiar. To date, Mercadito Solidario has distributed  over 50,000 food baskets to its community members.

The Lerner / Brownstein families wish to make this an annual event celebrating Marcia's life by helping those in need, thank you all for your support!
