University of Detroit Mercy, a Catholic university in the Jesuit and Mercy traditions, exists to provide excellent student-centered undergraduate and graduate education in an urban context. We seeks to integrate the intellectual, spiritual, ethical and social development of our students.

Story

Strengthen the Titans!

Proper strength training is a crucial aspect of training our student athletes. Your contribution toward our $20,000 goal will help ensure that the Titan basketball team, as well as all our teams, will have the proper equipment that can make all the difference in achieving a championship performance on the court!

We are looking to add the following pieces of equipment to our weight room:

- Seven Trap Bar HDs - to help with lower body strength this has adjustable handles for grip strength and larger hands and allows for more variety with it's open design.

- Two Rogue Echo Bikes - for non-impact conditioning. The high-contrast, battery-powered LCD console allows athletes to track intervals, distance, calories burned, heart rate, and more.

- Two Black Concept 2 Model D Rowers with PM5 Monitor - also for non-impact conditioning. The Concept 2 Rower provides one of the more comprehensive, full-body workouts of any fitness machine. Engineered to last a lifetime, it's low impact enough for use in physical rehabilitation centers, and intensive enough to be used by the world's fittest athletes.

- Three Pendulum Power Stack Lat Pulls that provide upper body pulling movements and mounts to the wall. this will allow us to convert our basic rack system into a powerful multi-station strength center.

- Three Rogue GH-1 Glute-Ham Developers will help with lower body strength. Along with strengthening muscles within the posterior chain, GHD training allows one of the only safe ways to actively train your spinal erectors. GHD sit-ups also result in one of the most powerful abdominal contractions of any movement in the gym. The midline stabilization gained acts like an intrinsic weight belt protecting the spine.

For over 145 years, University of Detroit Mercy has built an outstanding academic reputation. Since 1877, the Jesuit and Mercy mission has inspired men and women to live meaningful lives moved by the examples of Saint Ignatius and Sister Catherine McAuley. Along with academic excellence is a tradition and history of exceptional athletic performance and varsity sports. Men's basketball is the highest profile of the University's sports and holds a unique and pivotal position in enhancing its reputation and visibility. Titan basketball has a storied history built by celebrated players such as Dave Debusschere and Spencer Haywood and legendary coaches Bob Calihan and Dick Vitale. Our vision for Titan basketball is to be perennial Horizon League Champions, NCAA Tournament participants, a model among peer Jesuit institutions and a destination for the very best student-athletes from around the world. Detroit Mercy Athletics builds champions and leaders, develops student athletes of high integrity, enhances campus life and honors its rich history. We change lives!

In 2018, University of Detroit Mercy took the first step in building a championship program by hiring Mike Davis as Head Coach and foundation of Titan basketball. Titan basketball has enjoyed a storied history of coaches but never a coach with the resume, proven track record of winning championships and taking teams to the NCAA Tournament like Coach Davis and his staff. We expect to be a Top-20 program nationally and are in the right hands with our basketball staff having more than a combined 100 years of experience. Titan basketball has an unbelievable opportunity to reset the program and build a championship foundation.

The time is right and all the pieces are in place with Coach Davis leadership to rebuild the roster from the ground up, and take our basketball team and University to new levels like those accomplished at every institution in his coaching career. Our expectations for Titan basketball are high and our future is bright with Coach Davis at the helm.

Your gift will help the Detroit Mercy men's basketball team be a competitive program in the Horizon League and NCAA Division I, and will benefit the student-athletes as they reach their goals on the court, in the classrooms, and in the community.
