Nancy Bowers was first diagnosed with Head & Neck Cancer in 2005. She went through numerous rounds of chemotherapy and radiation and had a major surgery to remove the tumor. After a long, hard fight, she was able to come out with a win. She beat it!
For the next 17 years, she did everything she was supposed to do to stay cancer free. In March 2022, she was diagnosed with Head and Neck Cancer for a second time. She was ready to fight again and that's exactly what she did! In June of 2022, she had another major surgery to remove the tumor but this time, she lost her ability to speak and eat. Her and her family were just thankful the cancer was gone and she was still here.
Unfortunately, 4 months later, in November of 2022, the cancer came back. It was a shock to all of us on how fast it progressed. This time, there was no option except for palliative care therapy. It is a combination of biological medicine and chemo. The cancer is incurable at this stage. After the fourth round of chemo, she chose to stop because the tumor is extending. Nancy is now pushing forward and fighting harder than ever, but she is aware of the inevitable. As part of her journey, she wishes to help others and inform people on how life-changing this form of cancer is. She would like to give back to the research of this cancer and to families that are going through similar situations. She is truly an inspiration to all of us.
