Jeffrey S. Navarro, a 2014 Environmental Resources Engineering graduate from Humboldt who tragically passed away in a car accident shortly after graduation, is remembered through the Jeffrey S. Navarro Mentorship Program, established by his parents to support two-three Engineering students annually in mentoring their peers. Since its founding in Fall 2015, the program has supported 34 student mentors, continuing Jeffery's legacy of kindness and dedication to helping others while honoring his memory by assisting more students in achieving their Engineering degrees.
Navarro Mentors actively build community and support student success through a variety of engaging activities. They meet one-on-one with students to provide academic support in challenging engineering courses, host welcoming events like pizza parties at the start of each semester, and organize weekly drop-in tea times where students gather informally for peer support. Mentors also facilitate professional development through resume-building workshops and help connect their peers to valuable campus resources, creating a robust support network that enhances the Engineering student experience.
The Navarro Mentorship Program creates meaningful connections within the School of Engineering community by funding experienced students who provide vital one-on-one mentoring and organize community-building events for incoming transfer and second-year students. These dedicated mentors help their peers navigate the challenges of the Engineering program, creating lasting support networks that embody Jeffery's spirit of generosity and commitment to student success.
Make a gift today to help empower more engineering student mentors to guide, support, and inspire their peers—continuing Jeffrey's legacy of kindness and community.
