The mission of the Advocacy Center is to improve students academic performance by providing integrated services and resources to address Mental Health, Emotional and Socioeconomic needs. In person or virtual services are available to include basic needs insecurity assistance, mental health counseling, disability support services, foster youth, emergency aid and food pantry services.

During Fall 2021, Trellis Company conducted a survey with colleges students and found that 62% of respondents at Northeast Lakeview College reported to experience one or more basic needs insecurities including food and or housing insecurity.

A few months ago, a student arrived at the student advocacy needing to speak to someone as they were in dire need of financial assistance to help with tuition. After completing an assessment, it was revealed that the student was living in a hotel with their child and expressed needing help with food. The student received food and was able to apply to SAHA for housing assistance.

Support of this program will ensure that students have a way of meeting their basic needs in order to be successful.
