Story

National Library Week is a time to celebrate the essential role libraries play in strengthening our communities and protecting free and open access to knowledge. At the Boston Public Library, that mission comes to life every day across the Central Library and 25 neighborhood branches — welcoming people of all ages to learn, connect, and explore.

From children discovering the joy of reading at story time to students studying for exams, job seekers building new skills, and lifelong learners attending lectures, exhibitions, and cultural programs, the Library is a place where knowledge is shared and curiosity thrives. It is more than a place to borrow books — it is a vibrant civic space where ideas are explored, history is preserved, and community comes together.

This National Library Week, the Boston Public Library Fund is working to raise $100,000 to strengthen the programs and resources that keep the Library accessible and dynamic for all. From educational programs and cultural exhibitions to technology access and community learning opportunities, your support helps ensure the Library remains a place where everyone can discover, learn, and grow.

Celebrate National Library Week with us by making your gift today and helping keep knowledge open to all.
