Story
As an organization with more than a century of experience in caring for our community, the Valley of the Sun YMCA responds quickly to these challenges; creatively expanding our programs to meet our community when, where and how we are needed most.
Thanks to the generous support of our donors, we can continue to ensure the health, safety and well-being of every YMCA child and family. We are working to pave the way for a bright future to all of our community no matter their age, race, gender or socioeconomic status.
OUR MISSION
The Valley of the Sun YMCAs mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
OUR CAUSE
At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
ADVANCING CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT
Y programs provide experiences rich in social and emotional learning because youth can achieve their potential when they are nurtured by supportive adults.
In 2024, the Y will:
• Provide up to 150 children with a safe learning environment through the Early Learning, School Age and Summer Programs and enrich programs such as Muscle Up, Youth Sports and Parent's Night Out.
DEVELOPING COMMUNITY LEADERS
Y programs provide safe spaces to allow teens and young adults to build a sense of belonging and develop their self-identity.
In 2024, the Y will:
• Provide access to training programs, job shadowing, mentoring and leadership development workshops to 50 teens and young adults in the community.
DROWNING PREVENTION
Y programs provide critical safety around water knowledge and teach swimming skills for youth and adults.
In 2024, the Y will:
• Teach 150 children critical water safety awareness and swimming skills through our Safety Around Water lessons. Provide all preschool-1st grade students in the Dysart School District dry land water safety education.
