Why participate in Paws in the Park 2020... Because Humane Indiana is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to lead the community in the humane treatment of all animals. Through Humane Indiana's Clinic and Shelter/Adoption Center, thousands of pets find a healthy new start with forever families. Humane Indiana's Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center helps wildlife in need and offers wildlife education to our community.

OUR SHELTER

Humane Indianas four entities are driven by our mission to lead the community in the humane treatment of all animals. Our Animal Shelter strives to find homes for homeless cats and dogs of all ages. In addition, our shelter team works with families who need to surrender their pets, or need help finding resources to keep their pets because we believe in the preservation of families. Through our care, we ensure that shelter pets receive proper nourishment, exercise, and enrichment activities during their time with us. However, our goals and impact reach far beyond our shelter doors.

Abandoned and homeless litters of puppies and kittens and their moms are cared for through the help of our generous foster families, and in times of need we offer crisis fostering to pet owners.

We are grateful for our local animal agencies and rescues and for the opportunity to combine our efforts to help provide spay/neuter, vaccinations, and microchipping for adopted pets. Our shelter also works with the public and local government agencies to help control community and feral cat populations with spay/neuter and vaccination services.

Our Surrender Diversion Program helps pet owners with resources to in an effort to help them keep their beloved pets. Our team is dedicated to helping pet owners keep their pets, in times of need. Humane Indiana also offers medical help in the form of spay/neuter, vaccines, or micro-chipping, and may also provide initial canine and feline behavioral counseling and referral to trainers or behaviorists. Humane Indiana can also provide any supplies the pet owner may need to keep the pet, including but not limited to: food, litter, leashes, collars, toys, treats, grooming products, cat furniture, or litter boxes.

Our pet food bank provides help with pet food, when they need it most. Our goal is to help loving pet owners keep their beloved pet at home with them, through some difficut times.

Our Home to Home Program helps pet-owners who are tasked with the difficult decision of re-homing their pets. Home to Home allows for pet owners to safely, rehome their pet through a database to find families wanting to adopt pets. This avoids the stress to the animal of bringing it to shelter, but instead rehoming the pet from one home to another -- a Home to Home adoption.

Additional Services:

- Adoptions of homeless pets.

- Low-cost vaccinations and spay/neuter surgeries for those who qualify. - Our LCJC Program helps at-risk youths by supporting a human-animal bond with our shelter dogs.

- Our Estelle Marcus Clinic works with local rescues and neighboring communities to help spay/neuter and vaccinate community cats.

WILDLIFE REHABILITATION AND EDUCATION CENTER

Our Wildlife Rehabilitation Center helps injured and orphaned wildlife and strives to make them healthy to release them back to their natural environment. Each year more than 2,000 injured or orphaned animals are brought to our Center by caring, good samaritans. During baby season, we receive dozens of baby fledglings, squirrels, skunks, and opossums weekly and in need of 24-hour care.

Our mission at Humane Indiana Wildlife & Rehabilitation Center is to rehabilitate wildlife and release them back to their natural environment, once theyre healthy and are capable of surviving on their own. In some cases, however, due to injuries sustained before they were brought to us, it would not be safe to release them to fend for themselves. Fortunately for HIW, some animals remain in our care and become wildlife ambassadors. They help us provide wildlife education through our wildlife talks in our community, throughout the state, and during our kids camps.
