We’re living in unprecedented times, and families in our community are struggling now more than ever. With cuts to SNAP and WIC in the new federal budget, along with dramatic increases in healthcare costs, we anticipate a growing crisis in our social safety net in the months ahead.

More than 3,000,000 Californian families will be affected by Trump’s HR1 “Big Beautiful Bill”. In Contra Costa County Richmond has the most families of any other city who depend on these programs to feed their families every day, the enacting of this bill will have a devastating impact in our city.

At Urban Tilth, we know these challenges will mean an even greater need for our FREE and reduced cost Food Box program, FREE Farm Stand and Emergency and Holiday Food programs in 2026. More families will be turning to us for fresh, healthy food—and we are committed to being there for them.

To prepare for this increased need, we launched the Family to Family Campaign, a community effort rooted in the simple belief that neighbors can help neighbors through difficult times. By contributing to this campaign, families who are able can help ensure that families facing hardship continue to have access to nourishing, locally grown food.
