During our 2023-24 fiscal year we were able to proudly serve a grand total of 46,000 patrons, including delivering a staggering 485 in-person and virtual programs for children and adults to 11,187 participants. We are proud to continue organizing several traditional community events, including the Holiday Caroling Party and Open House, the 4th of July Bike Parade, and the long-standing Summer Book Sale, all at no cost to participants. Your needed contribution supports countless other programs and events throughout the year, including the library’s exhibition program which features important items from the Special Collections.
I am especially proud of the significant role Pequot Library continues to play in helping to organize the grassroots opposition to an electric utility company’s plan for installing high voltage transmission lines and massive monopoles from Southport to the south end of Bridgeport. A silver lining of this ongoing situation has been witnessing community members rally around a common cause. I think we can agree that we know more than ever just how important libraries are as a community gathering places and trusted source of information for timely issues.
None of this important work can happen—and continue—without the financial contributions of the community we serve. Did you know that a fraction of Pequot Library’s annual funding comes from the Town of Fairfield? We must independently raise 80% of our budget—over $1 million each year. Your gift as a Friend of Pequot Library makes a meaningful difference, helping us to continue to serve the community in ways many have come to rely on, year after year. Your contribution helps support our important work:
- With a gift of $50-$100, you can help underwrite a children’s story hour.
- A contribution of $250 can provide an online “Meet the Author” program.
- By donating $500, you can help sponsor a live music or theater program.
- A most generous gift of $1,000 allows for a school field trip to visit a special collection exhibition.
Your gift at any level will help us carry out our mission to enrich lives by serving the cultural, educational, and intellectual needs of the entire community. Donations can be made by visiting www.pequotlibrary.org/donate/or by check payable to Pequot Library sent in the enclosed giving envelope. Thank you for considering a gift to our 2024 Spring appeal as a Friend of Pequot Library. Your support will help us reach our goal of raising $85,000 in May and June.
With appreciation,
