Story
There are people everywhere who are alone, people who see themselves as not enough, people who have challenges that prevent them from living life to the fullest. We are requesting your help in showing them that there is an entire community waiting here to welcome them, to show them that there's a bunch of people out there who are just like them, and that they too can push themselves to limits they never thought possible.
The IM ABLE Foundation removes obstacles that prevent people from being physically active by providing grants, resources, fitness opportunities and motivation. We change attitudes about the potential of individuals with physical, cognitive, and/or behavioral challenges by redefining what is possible.
We see incredible happen every day. There are days when we witness Robert, a child overcoming the challenge of cerebral palsy to walk for the first time, helped by Alan, a volunteer veteran mentor with severe PTSD. We see the pure joy in Chris's eyes, a husband and father, when we give him a bike that makes it possible for him to go on rides with his family and friends for the first time since his accident. We see Devann, a survivor of childhood cancer win the Boston and then the New York Marathon, a dream she had since she was 11, on a bike we gave her. We see Johnisha, a mother of four kids who was shot, paralyzed, and now sharing her passion for boxing with kids with autism, Downs Syndrome, and other challenges.
We hear impossible things every day. We hear from a 55 year-old woman who lost her hands and feet in a case of strep throat gone horribly wrong. Beth leads and encourages a group of people with challenges of all kinds doing adaptive cross-fit class. We hear uninhibited swearing erupting from Jennie, a woman who was abused for her entire childhood, had a stroke, recovered from drug and alcohol addiction and now takes the bus an hour each way to work out in our supportive community.
We are asking for your support so we can make more of these incredibly impactful moments.
