The Pluck Project's main goals are to prepare the senior contemporary dance class with the necessary skills to transition from students to professional artists, and create networking opportunities that expose the graduating class to choreographers, artistic directors, and artists currently working in the dance industry. Guided by their faculty, the fourth-year class experiences what it means to produce their own showcase, including the behind-the-scenes logistics involved with running a dance company and the artistic challenges of their choreographic projects. The showcase presented in New York in the Spring of 2023, will consist of self-choreographed solos and a group work by Igal Perry, artistic director of Peridance Contemporary Dance Company.
Pluck showed me that I have the skills and options to make a career in dance for myself even if that is developing my own show and work. - Elizabeth Iwasko
While many of the learning opportunities in the Pluck Project are mainly geared towards a dance career, many of the skills the students are acquiring can be transferred to their daily lives and other fields of interest. The Pluck Project hopes to build a bridge from college to the professional world, no matter the direction of the individual's career.
Pluck is your formal introduction as an individual artist into the dance world. Your donation can help make our introduction notable." Jaala M
