The Presidents Breakfast is an annual event that gives staff an opportunity to connect with colleagues, hear exciting updates from President Peter Devlin and prepare to kick off a new academic year. The Fanshawe community has continually demonstrated tremendous generosity and spirit in answering a call to support the Sharing Shop Fanshawes on-campus food bank through donations of non-perishable food, toiletries and money as part of the breakfast festivities.
During last years virtual event, more than $3,200 was raised through this platform. We are hoping for an equally tremendous response this year as many of our students continue experiencing financial difficulties due to the rising cost of living.
Funds raised through this campaign will ensure The Sharing Shop can stock nutritious food for students who are in need. Plus, the Fanshawe College Alumni Association will match all donations up to $3,000. That means for every $1 you donate to this campaign, $2 goes directly to help students in need.
Each year, approximately 10 per cent of Fanshawes student population accesses The Sharing Shop when in need of grocery items, toiletries or cleaning supplies. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Sharing Shop pivoted to a virtual service to continue supporting students in need. During the 2021/22 academic year, The Sharing Shop assisted over 300 students, some of whom received $150 in Presidents Choice gift cards in a semester in lieu of accessing the physical space on campus. Recently, the Sharing Shop also assisted Ukranian and Russian students with extra grocery supports as well.
Additionally, The Sharing Shop shares recipes to their website that students can follow to create nutritious and enjoyable meals with the items they receive.
Fanshawe students who are most in need will directly benefit from this campaign by having access to food and other necessities and by knowing that the Fanshawe community cares about them.
