Here are some of the many ways that CHAMP helps!

Often, women in our area stay briefly at a local shelter to escape an abusive relationship. When given the opportunity to start a new life, many do not have the funds to pay for their security deposit or to turn on utilities at a new apartment. CHAMP dollars are used to give these women and their children a chance to start over.

Local families displaced by house fires, flooding or other natural disasters are provided emergency supplies such as diapers, household items, food, toiletries and clothing.

CHAMP supports continued education; paying for college application fees, Certified Nursing Assistant testing fees, fingerprinting for employment and more. School supplies have been provided for grade school to college level students.

Pro Actions HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program) is a program that helps many people who cant pay for the skyrocketing costs to heat their homes. What happens to those who just miss the cut off for qualifying for HEAP? CHAMP dollars can pay for emergency heating costs to keep families safe and warm.

Transportation is often a barrier for many people to become or stay employed. CHAMP dollars pay for emergency car repairs, to have a vehicle registered or inspected. DMV costs such as permit application, five hour course fees and license renewal have also been covered by CHAMP.

CHAMP provides dental care, vision screening and correction, medical co-pays and emergency prescriptions. People with medical needs are never turned away. Physical exams required for employment provided by CHAMP have assisted many in securing jobs leading to a more stable and secure future.

Gas cards or bus tokens are often purchased to help people pay for transportation to a training that will lead to employment, a new job, or even a job interview. Often this small amount of assistance is enough to get them through until the first paycheck is received! Additionally, people who have family members who are admitted to hospitals at a significant distance away or need medical treatments out of town can also be assisted with transportation costs by CHAMP.

Every year, many hard-working families find themselves unable to provide gifts for their children at Christmas. CHAMP dollars make sure these children experience the joy of the holidays as every child should. In 2018, 115 children were assisted.
