Save the Children exists to help every child reach their full potential. In the UK and around the world, we make sure children stay safe, healthy and keep learning, so they can become who they want to be.

Story

Hi, I'm Natalie Dau (@Rockstararms) and from May 25th - June 5th 2024 I ran 1,000kms, across 3 countries (Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore) equaling 2 marathons back-to-back every day over 12 days. Doing this I set a Guinness World Record, but it was about so much more than a record.

In the process I raised over SGD$50,000 in support of empowering women and girls around body image and physical movement, and made school visits along my route to give out scholarships to children in need.

But this was only just the start...

SEASON 2: We are coming back for more!

On April 21st 2025, I am embarking on another 1000km, 12 day run, this time in the Philippines. Starting from the top of the Philippines at San Vincente, down the west coast and passing through Manilla to finish at Batangas.

At 52 years old, I aim to demonstrate the power of ambition, empowerment and movement to unite people across cultures and communities, proving that age is no excuse not to follow your dreams.

The introduction of an all-female support crew for the run in 2025, will see the consistent focus on inspiring young girls to reach their full potential, and that is also why I have chosen to fundraise for Save the Children's Girls' Impact fund.

THE GIRLS' IMPACT FUND

Save the Children UK Girls’ Impact Fund ensures girls’ empowerment and participation are at the heart of their work. Programmes tackling the root causes of issues that impact girls are one of the least funded areas in international development. Thanks to the Girls’ Impact Fund, Save the Children are dedicating critical funding to these programmes, research, and activities that are designed for, and by, girls.

Of the total contribution to the Girls’ Impact Fund, 75% of funds enable direct programme implementation focused on gender equality and girls’ empowerment. 25% of all donations are allocated to Save the Children UK’s unrestricted funds, critically supporting children wherever the need is greatest globally. Giving flexibly to programming is fundamental to allowing Save the Children to drive forward children’s rights and gender equality.

Through the Fund, they’re listening to women and girls about their experiences as they know best the barriers they face and the solutions they need. Their insights and understanding of their communities drive lasting, positive change for gender equality and children’s futures.

Save the Children is preventing and ending violence against women and girls, and building an evidence base to close the gender data gap. They’re investing in innovative projects, local women’s rights organisations, and in championing girls’ participation in decision-making.

Just one example of the Girls' Impact Fund's latest successes is in its fight against child marriage. On 20th June 2024, Sierra Leone's Parliament unanimously passed the Prohibition of Child Marriage Bill 2024, officially banning child marriage nationwide. This landmark achievement marks a progressive step in protecting children's rights and girls’ futures with Save the Children having played a crucial role.

Simply put, Save the Children believes in a world where every girl has the power to determine her own future.
