Story
Together, we’ve transformed cycling into a tool for health, joy, and justice.
Since 2012, RICH CITY Rides has been getting people outdoors, getting people healthy, and getting people together through the simple, powerful act of riding a bike. What began as a Photo Cyclist Project, a photography project to celebrate the diversity of people bicycling along the Richmond Greenway and call for greater investment in safe bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, has grown into a movement that builds community, heals neighborhoods, and reimagines what’s possible in Richmond.
Today, Rich City Rides is at a critical transition point. We are preparing to move from fiscal sponsorship into Rich City’s independent 501(c)(3) structure. To complete that transition responsibly, continue serving the community, and protect the properties that support our work, we must close two urgent funding gaps.
Our immediate goal: $1,054,302
We are raising $1,054,302 to support essential operations, prepare for Rich City Rides to become a program of Rich City, and address the property-related obligation tied to the community spaces sustaining this work
$367,960 for administrative stability
This funding supports the people and systems behind every Rich City Rides program, including staffing, financial management, insurance, compliance, fundraising, communications, facilities, and organizational coordination.
Administrative support keeps our doors open and enables our bicycle, youth, health, and community programs to remain accessible.
$686,342 for our remaining property obligation needed to secure
• 1434 Macdonald Ave Mobility Hub
• 1525 Ohio Ave Black Wellness Hub
Rich City Rides has already made a substantial payment toward its property obligation. We are now raising funds to reduce the remaining balance and keep community-serving property in community hands.
These properties provide the foundation for cycling programs, youth development, health, creativity, economic opportunity, and long-term community ownership in Richmond.
