Story
Alumni, Parents, and Friends,
Here we go again — living the dream with the Cal Poly Humboldt Men’s Rugby Team, which has qualified for the Western Regional Playoffs in Denver, Colorado, on November 22–23! We’re asking for your support to make the trip to Denver possible. As a club team, the players rely on fundraising to make great things happen.
It’s extremely difficult (and costly) to travel from Humboldt, especially as student-athletes juggle work, class schedules, midterms, practices, and training — all outside the structure of varsity sports. Flights and lodging make up the bulk of expenses, and costs are rising as the team continues to fundraise. This grassroots effort is what makes it all possible.
Director of Rugby and Forwards Coach Vincent Celotto shared, “I am very impressed with this young squad and their dedication to the club mission that we feel gets results. I have players working 30 hours a week with a full load of classes, and I witness the Humboldt passion that we’re famous for every match we play. I look forward to the challenges ahead with this group, and I know when the rain starts, good things will happen.”
The club’s mission of performance and education is emphasized by an all-volunteer coaching staff — comprised of former players who go the extra mile to achieve more than just victories.
The team prepares players to do great things on and off the rugby pitch, carrying forward a strong culture that has been built and handed down over the past 50+ years.
This invitation to the Western Regional is a tremendous accomplishment — but as always, the goals are set higher. Advancing to play for a national championship in Houston, Texas, is within reach. Cal Poly Humboldt is a small college that plays above its numbers, and your support helps get the team to the finish line.
Please help with this first part of the journey!
